"Whether or not you believe the C.A.R.S. program is profitable or just another example of wasteful government mismanagement, if you are looking to participate you better get moving!"

Yeah I definitely think it is just another example of wasteful government mismanagement...I try to avoid ranting about it because I already have done that way too much (or not enough, depending how you look at it).

The worst part of it is that another portion of the sitmulus might be used in a similar program, this time for home appliances. I kid you not - http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/aug2009/db20090821_304909.htm

Fred said: <blockquote><em>...Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow said that ‘It wouldn’t be fair” to exclude other car companies. Why does it have to be fair? Life isn’t fair, get used to it. Our government (and us Americans) already have a vested interest in our Big Three with the government backed loans.

So, my question is simple? Who’s behind the wheel? It doesn’t seem to be “…we the people"</em></blockquote>

Bravo... well said Fred! Life isn't fair, and to ask why we have to include foreign car companies is an excellent question. Let them fend for themselves I say...

When I first heard that the Uncle Sam was helping out, 2 of the "Big Three" I thought that it was great. They did this for Chrysler once before in the 80's. This time I see it a bit different. GM has downsized, no more Pontiac and no more Saturn. Why? Got me stumped here, Pontiac actually outsold Buick last year?
Now the cash for clunkers, sounds good, but why crush them? Put these cars and trucks back in to the pool of now cheap used cars. People who can't afford a new car would also benefit from this as well.
The cash rebate also doesn't have to be applied to one of the "Big Three". Since the government is helping out two of our automakers already, why couldn't be limited to "American" cars. This would serve many benefits such as maybe an eye-opening to how good these cars are and it may help GM and Chrysler get back on their feet. I read somewhere that Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow said that 'It wouldn't be fair" to exclude other car companies. Why does it have to be fair? Life isn't fair, get used to it. Our government (and us Americans) already have a vested interest in our Big Three with the government backed loans.

...stepping down off of my soap box.
