Today I want to introduce you to our God, and let you in on our prayer to Him for a modern day miracle.
Our God
Our God is the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob. He is the God who created the world, and the God who created us. He is the God in the burning bush who parted the Red Sea and led the Israelites out of Egypt as a pillar of fire. He is the God who delivered Daniel from the lion’s den and the God who allowed the three Hebrew children to be thrown into the fiery furnace, yet by joining them, kept them from being consumed by the flames thereof. He is the God who was made flesh and dwelt among us over 2,000 years ago. He was God then, and He is God now; and these are not stories… these are histories.
His Miracles
Our God is all powerful and is not bound by the physical laws of this world as you and I are. As shown above… He is a God of miracles, but His miracles are not a thing of the past. You see, we believe that God desires to work miracles today, just as He did in the days of Holy Scripture, only our disbelief and self-reliance commonly steals the opportunity.
Today we are publicly submitting ourselves to the possibility of a modern day miracle of Jehovah God in our lives, and are humbled and excited for the possibility that He may pour out even a tiny minutia of His power upon us. That said, we are not testing God… rather we are yielding our perceived control over our situation to the powerful Being who actually is in control of our situation.
And so that brings us to our specific prayer to our God for a modern day miracle.
Our prayer for a Personal Finance Miracle
At the beginning of the year we set 2 financial goals concerning our debt and our savings. Due to a few unplanned emergencies over the course of 2009 there is no earthly or mathematical way for those goals to be achieved from our income. We are choosing to see this as our opportunity to yield the situation to the power of Gods miracles… if He so chooses. We are praying for God to provide the remaining amounts so our goals will be fulfilled. We are not praying for the want of money – we can earn the money over the course of the next few months – we are praying that God will publicly glorify His name. God may provide this miracle, and He may not; either way we know He is far beyond able. If this is not part of His plan we will not be discouraged or disbelieving – rather we will continue to bless his name and trust that He simply has a better plan for our financial situation.
We will pray for this miracle daily until the passing of the New Year. Won’t you pray with us?
“And when they (Jesus and his disciples) were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” – Matthew 17:14-21
How truly amazing it would be to see a modern day miracle. A modern day personal finance miracle!
Thank you for your article and I want to let you know how much I enjoy your site. My husband and I have been blessed, through the goodness and mercy of God, to reduce our debt load this year. We have a pretty low income and at first does not seem possible but, we are no longer in bondage to credit card debt. We now have a small medical bill (less than $500.00) and a loan for a “murphy” aka new furnace. We will with God’s grace and goodness be able to reduce those to dust this next year. Blessings to you and your wife.
How awesome to hear! I am soooo glad when I hear people having success over their debt. Especially when they have to sacrifice to do so, and especially in this modern day where debt is so accepted as normal and necessary. Keep at it, and so will I – soon we will all be free from the bondage of debt! 🙂
Thank you for honoring and crediting God for His good works! So many of us (most certainly including myself here) want to take credit for our lives when we are living in abundance, but we do not want to accept responsibility for our lives during the lean times. This website is such a blessing!
Thank you for the great words of encouragement Tammy, and I am honored and humbled to give all the credit and all the glory to God!
my wife and i have no more debt . 2010 is time save ,we thank god ,blessings to you and yours
Thank you, and congrats on your freedom from debt! I hope to join the ranks as soon as possible.
God speed Matt! May s/he help you obliterate all your debt goals and live the free life!
Thanks Sam! 🙂
Nicely written. It’s always cool to get to peak into a writer’s heart. You let us in with the post and I thank you for it.
Although I’m not a practicing Christian, I did enjoy reading Matthew when I was reading the bible. I remember the quoted passage very well from my readings.
I hope you get the answer soon.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff, I’m always glad to let people in on things that are important to me. I believe that is the great power that blogs have over traditional media outlets now-a-days! 🙂
Yielding to God is the key to receiving a miracle! Americans by their very nature tend to think that taking some sort of action is the best course. To do nothing and wait on the Lord seems to many like the lazy mans way out. Truly, it takes a lot of strength of character to have the faith and belief that the Lord will provide, as well as the patience to wait on him! I pray that He will use your situation to glorify His name! God bless you!
I believe we should do both (and I know you do too) – work the work then at the end of the day have faith that God will provide where you need and is able to provide so much more if he so chooses to glorify his name before the people! 🙂
Matt,
I love the spirit of your post and your faith in God. This is a subject we often talk about in Money Map coaching. On paper there may be no way possible, but God is an awesome God. If we are doing our part (working hard as financial stewards) and putting Him first in our finances, we are opening the door to allow him the opportunity to work in this area of our lives. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. God may or may not choose to bless you in meeting this two goals this year, but know both His plan and purpose for you are perfect.
Exactly Jason – whether or not this miracle takes form… I know that He his plan is always best. I am just so excited to be able to present a public opportunity for the Lord to glorify his name if he so chooses.
Thanks for sharing your story. We do serve a great God who can do great things. I stand with you in prayer. Good luck in 2010. You are on the right track. Stick to your plan and God and it will work out.
Thank you for praying Ken, that means a lot. Regardless of what happens, I will continue to be faithful to do the work and stick to the plan.
